On 24 April, the official opening of a large-scale educational project dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident took place in Kyiv.

April 26, 2026, marks the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant – a tragedy that changed the course of history, became a symbol of global nuclear danger, and at the same time an example of the courage, self-sacrifice, and professionalism of thousands of liquidators.

The World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) and the Public Organization “Ukrainian Nuclear Society” (UKrNS) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations.

The primary objective of the meeting was to honor the victims of the 1986 disaster and to engage in a professional discussion regarding critical threats to nuclear safety caused by russia’s war against Ukraine, attacks on energy infrastructure, and the ongoing occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

This important professional event was held in a hybrid format and brought together researchers, academics, representatives of Ukraine’s nuclear sector, and international partners to discuss current challenges and prospects for the development of the nuclear field.
