Strategic Partnership: Dnipropetrovsk Region Integrates into Ukraine’s Nuclear Energy Development
A specialized roundtable was held in Dnipro focused on leveraging the region’s industrial, scientific, and educational potential for large-scale nuclear power projects. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society (UkrNS) and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, with support from Energoatom and partner associations.
As Ukraine moves toward complete independence from Russian technology, the country is shifting to a closed-loop domestic production chain. Pavlo Kovtoniuk, Acting Chairman of the Board of Energoatom, noted:
“Energoatom is open to cooperation with Ukrainian manufacturers. Production localization is the foundation for the country’s post-war economic development, creating new competencies and jobs.”
Key Discussion Points:
Participation of regional enterprises in the completion of Khmelnytskyi NPP Units 3 and 4.
Prospects for localizing the production of components for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Integration of local businesses into the Energoatom procurement system.
Development of a talent pipeline through specialized universities (including USUCT).
Practical Steps: The meeting concluded with a Resolution to create a registry of competent regional enterprises and prepare legislative changes to optimize the construction of nuclear facilities. Furthermore, a tripartite Memorandum of Partnership was signed between UkrNS, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Association of Local Self-Government Bodies, and the Federation of Employers’ Organizations of the Dnipropetrovsk Region.
Dnipropetrovsk region is proving its readiness to become a powerful industrial hub for Ukraine’s innovative nuclear revival.
