The member of the UkrNS Pylyp Kuznetsov took part in a meeting of the Higher Scientific Council of the European Nuclear Society

On November 05-06, 2024, Pylyp Kuznetsov, Director of the School of Physics and Technology at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and member of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, took part in a meeting of the Higher Scientific Council of the European Nuclear Society.

In the first part of the meeting, the Council members heard out the reports of five finalists of the HSC PhD Award 2024. The research topics included methods for analyzing the safety and sustainability of nuclear systems, development of software for reactor physics, development of methods for characterizing radioactive waste, and development of non-destructive testing methods for monitoring pressure in the containment of nuclear materials. Chiara FAVARETTO from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland has been awarded the prize for the work “Development of terbium radioisotopes towards clinical theragnostics in nuclear medicine”.

The second part of the meeting included discussion of position papers, in particular on long-term operation of nuclear power plants and extension of their lifetime, as well as on the development of nuclear medicine, in particular the use of radiopharmaceuticals and current challenges and limitations in their development and use.
