Ukrainian Nuclear Society and IPP Centre LLC Host Scientific and Technical Conference on Nuclear Energy Engineering and Safety

The Ukrainian Nuclear Society, in cooperation with IPP Centre LLC, held the Scientific and Technical Conference “Engineering. Science. Safety: 30 Years of Technology Development for Reliable Operation of Nuclear Power Engineering.” The event, which took place on May 15, 2026, was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of IPP Centre LLC, which hosts a regional chapter of the Public Organization “Ukrainian Nuclear Society.”

The conference served as a unique professional platform for an open dialogue between scientists, practicing engineers, and representatives of the operating organization, bringing together leading industry experts to address the most pressing issues of today. During the official opening ceremony, welcoming remarks were delivered to the participants by Bohdan Mateiashchuk (Head of IPP Centre LLC), Volodymyr Kholosha (President of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society), Danylo Lavrenov (First Vice-President of the Society), Viktor Klochko (Representative of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”), and Hryhorii Mozolevych (Representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). The event was moderated by Maksym Zarazovskyi, Head of the UkNS Regional Chapter at IPP Centre and Chief Engineer of the enterprise.

The technical program of the conference began with the first plenary session, moderated by IPP Centre specialist Ihor Bohdan, which focused on safety evolution and strategic prospects. During this session, experts from IPP Centre – including B. Mateiashchuk, Ya. Dubyk, A. Bohdan, M. Zarazovskyi, S. Ahieiev, and Yu. Filonova—shared their long-term experience in engineering solutions, aging management of NPP components, results of experimental material research, and participation in European projects.

The second plenary session, moderated by Volodymyr Kholosha, shifted the focus toward engineering and scientific support for the safe operation of NPPs. The discussions covered a wide range of critical topics, including concepts for modernizing diagnostic systems for VVER-type NPPs presented by V. Kozlov (PrJSC “SRPA “Impuls”), regulatory support for the lifetime extension of reactor pressure vessels by S. Romanov (JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”), and experimental studies on the strength of materials by V. Yasniy (Ivan Puluj Ternopil National Technical University). Current challenges in nuclear energy were also examined through the prism of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) by D. Humeniuk. Special attention was paid to the future of the industry, specifically the prospects for constructing new-generation reactors in Ukraine, presented by S. Kopyl (Branch separated entity “API”), as well as the strategic development of the sector under current conditions, including cybersecurity and the physical protection of nuclear installations against existing and potential threats, presented by O. Smyrniahin (Branch separated entity “API”).

The conference concluded with a panel discussion dedicated to the role of engineering and computational support in ensuring the long-term operation of NPPs in the face of new challenges. The organizers express their sincere gratitude to colleagues, partners, and all participants for their fruitful work, insightful presentations, and dedication to the development of the Ukrainian nuclear industry. Ahead lie new challenges, large-scale projects, and the implementation of future technologies for the sake of Ukraine’s energy independence.
