Ukrainian Nuclear Society Initiated Strategic Panel on New NPP Units at INUDECO 2025
On April 29, 2025, as part of the 10th Anniversary International Conference INUDECO 2025, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society held a dedicated panel discussion focused on key issues surrounding the future of nuclear power generation in Ukraine. Discussions covered prospects for new nuclear power units, technological implementation aspects, international experience, and current challenges in the sector.
The panel was moderated by Volodymyr Kholosha, President of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, who opened the event with an overview of the current status of new build projects and emphasized their strategic importance for the country’s energy independence.
The panel featured insights from leading industry experts. Hennadii Samosiei, Deputy Chief Engineer for New Units at Khmelnytskyi NPP, highlighted the technological specifics and readiness for implementing high-capacity power unit projects. Oleh Zelenyi, Director of the R&D Center of SE NNEGC Energoatom, presented on the scientific and technical support for nuclear energy investment projects, including new builds.
The session also included a professional discussion on international best practices, regulatory approaches, and the necessary steps for advancing new nuclear projects in Ukraine.
INUDECO 2025 (“Problems of Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities and Environmental Restoration”) is being held in the city of Slavutych from April 25 to 30. This year’s theme is “Nuclear Energy: Safety Challenges.” The conference brings together 102 participants from 10 countries, including nuclear energy professionals, environmentalists, government representatives, international organizations, and academic institutions. The Ukrainian Nuclear Society is a co-organizer of this significant event.
During the opening ceremony and first plenary session, welcoming remarks were delivered by Volodymyr Kholosha, President of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society; Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration; Oleksandr Tytarchuk, Technical Director of Chornobyl NPP; Hryhorii Suprun, Director of Atomremontservice branch of Energoatom; Ukrainian MP Olga Vasylevska-Smahliuk; Professor and Kyiv Regional Council Deputy Volodymyr Udovychenko; and representatives of the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, and the Institute for Safety Problems of NPPs of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The final day of the conference and the summary session will be held online on April 30.
