Representatives of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society took part in the annual “EURATOM NCP in Ukraine” – ANNUAL WORKSHOP 2025

On June 10, 2025, the annual “EURATOM NCP in Ukraine” – Annual Workshop 2025 was held in Kyiv in a hybrid format (offline/online) as part of the EU-UA Nuclear Research and Education Capacity Building (NURECAB) project, funded under the Euratom – Horizon Europe program. The event was organized by the Euratom National Contact Points in Ukraine for “Nuclear Fission” and “Fusion” in cooperation with the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology”.

The main goal of the workshop was to inform the Ukrainian research community about the new Euratom Work Programme for 2026–2027 and to discuss strategic steps for active participation in future calls. The event gathered 55 representatives from Ukrainian universities, research institutions, industrial enterprises, and NGOs. Special attention was given to opportunities for Ukrainian nuclear stakeholders to engage in European initiatives aimed at cooperation, knowledge exchange, and joint project development.

One of the featured presentations was delivered by representatives of the Rivne regional branch of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society – reactor department operators from Rivne NPP, Daria Papezhuk and Eduard Omelchuk – titled “Ukrainian Young Nuclear Generation and International Cooperation”.
In their talk, they highlighted the activities of the Youth Organization of the Rivne NPP trade union (Energoatom) and the Youth Section of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, presenting various projects and initiatives supporting young professionals, as well as opportunities for international collaboration. The presentation also covered recent European events involving young Ukrainian specialists, including ENYGF and the Innovations for Nuclear (I4N) Europe competition, which took place in June 2025 in Zagreb, Croatia, with participation from both Daria and Eduard.

The participation of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society representatives in these events was supported by the mobility scheme of the NURECAB project. During the seminar, the speakers also shared their experience in successfully applying for this grant.

Other key topics discussed at the workshop included: the progress of the NURECAB project and its mobility programme; research findings on gaps between educational programs and the needs of the Ukrainian nuclear sector; main takeaways from the FISA EURADWASTE 2025 and SNETP Forum conferences; youth engagement in the international nuclear community; preparation for the Euratom Work Programme 2026–2027; educational and research initiatives of the EU Joint Research Centre (JRC); Poland’s experience in nuclear energy development; and case studies of using AI, digital tools, and robotics in the nuclear sector.
Special focus was given to presentations by young Ukrainian scientists as examples of successful involvement in international research and educational initiatives.
