Meeting of the Board of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society: Results of 2025 and Plans for 2026

On 2 December 2025, the Board of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society held a meeting dedicated to summarizing the activities of the Society over the past year and defining the key areas of work for the year ahead. President of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society Volodymyr Kholosha opened the meeting by congratulating the members on the conclusion of a productive year and emphasizing the importance of maintaining the organization’s development momentum in 2026.

The meeting agenda included the presentation of the annual report on the work of the Society, its regional branches and secretariat, the review of the budget implementation, and the approval of the activity plan and financial estimate for the upcoming year. First Vice President and Executive Secretary of the Society, Danylo Lavrenov, outlined the main achievements of 2025, the progress of ongoing projects, and the new initiatives joined by the Society throughout the year.

A report on the activities of the Scientific and Analytical Section was delivered by its co-chairs: Oleksandr Mazurok (Energy Safety Group) and Ivan Chepuroko (Rivne NPP Branch). They highlighted the active work of the section and the successful organization in 2025 of two major international conferences — NucNext-2025: Prospects for Implementing Innovations in Nuclear Energy in Kyiv and the International Conference named after V.M. Voievodin Current Issues of Nuclear Energy in Kharkiv, as well as the participation of Society members in significant global scientific events. They also outlined the work of the section’s scientific groups and the prospects for further development, including the upcoming scientific and technical conference to be held in Kharkiv in April 2026.

Reports by the heads of the Women’s and Youth Sections – Olena Vtora (South Ukraine NPP Branch) and Eduard Omelchuk (Rivne NPP Branch) – demonstrated that both sections, despite the short period following the leadership rotation in the summer of 2025, have already shown a high level of activity. Numerous educational, communication, professional, and international initiatives were implemented over the year, and a wide range of projects planned for 2026 was presented, including youth engagement activities, women’s leadership initiatives, and new professional development efforts.

During the discussion on international cooperation, particular emphasis was placed on the productive partnerships between the Ukrainian Nuclear Society and the European Nuclear Society, the American Nuclear Society, and other international professional organizations. These collaborations have supported Ukrainian nuclear specialists during wartime, enabled the Society’s involvement in global scientific programmes, and ensured the strong representation of the Ukrainian expert community within the international nuclear sector. The Secretariat also presented a selection of current grant opportunities available to Ukrainian researchers through international donors and partner institutions.

Significant attention was devoted to the volunteer and charitable activities carried out by the Society’s branches, the Secretariat, and individual members. Throughout 2025, the Society’s volunteers consistently supported Ukrainian defenders, providing essential equipment, supplies, and other resources. In this context, the Board reviewed the decision to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the NGO Vartovi Svitla (Guardians of Light), established by employees of Energoatom’s central office, Kyiv-based branches, and the AEM Branch, with the aim of consolidating efforts to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces and strengthening the volunteer initiatives of nuclear sector professionals.

One of the key decisions of the meeting was the approval of two new regional branches of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society – in the city of Dnipro and at the Emergency and Technical Centre Branch of Energoatom – both of which joined the Society’s activities in the summer of 2025 and were granted official status within its structure.

In conclusion, the Board recognized the work of the Secretariat and regional branches of the Society in 2025 as satisfactory, endorsed all proposed decisions, and approved the activity plan and budget for 2026. The meeting reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to further developing its scientific, educational, international, and volunteer activities in the year ahead.
