The selection stage of the UkrNS all-Ukrainian essay competition among high school students was held in Kyiv

In 2023, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society will hold this competition together with NAEK Energoatom with the support of the Energy Safety Group.

The Kyiv stage provided for the general selection of abstracts for Ukraine, which the participants prepared during February-April 2023. 12 competitive works from different cities of Ukraine – Dnipro, Chernihiv, Slavutych, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, from the settlements of Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions were submitted to participate in the selection stage.

In their works, the participants discussed the current issues of the functioning of nuclear energy and the prospects for its development in Ukraine. In particular, several participants at once chose topics related to the influence of war and military operations on the operation of nuclear facilities, as well as the possibilities of nuclear power as a source of energy for the development of the state’s economy, as well as solutions to the problems of rapid restoration of electricity supply to consumers. The first places in the selection stage were taken by the papers, the topic of which was the study of the role of nuclear physics for the development of science and the role of nuclear energy in medicine. In total, the members of the jury selected 9 best essays that received the highest number of points.

Selection stages were also held in the regions where nuclear energy facilities are located in Ukraine – in satellite cities of the NPP, as well as in the city of Slavutych, Kyiv region, and in the cities where specialized institutions of higher education are located – Kharkiv and Lviv. At each qualifying stage, three winners were determined in these cities.
All the winners of the selection stage of the All-Ukrainian Essay Competition among students “Nuclear Energy and Peace”-2023 will take part in the grand final, which will be held in the fall of 2023.
