All-Ukrainian concept design competition “Nuclear Facility 2100. Design the Energy of the Future”

The final of the All-Ukrainian concept design competition “Nuclear Facility 2100. Design the Energy of the Future” has taken place. The event was organized by the Dnipro Subdivision of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society in cooperation with the Research Institute “Innovative Energy” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology.

The competition is aimed at progressive and talented youth – students of architectural, engineering, and energy specialties who strive to contribute to shaping the vision of next-generation energy infrastructure.

What was the competition task?

Participants were required to develop their own original concept and high-quality visualization of a nuclear power plant of the future. The primary design tools utilized were modern software suites such as Revit, ArchiCAD, or their equivalents. The result of this creative and engineering work was a set of detailed renders (showing the facility’s exterior and its integration into the surrounding landscape), alongside a comprehensive textual description of the architectural and technological concept.

By the decision of the jury, the places among the finalists were distributed as follows:

  • 1st Place (Prize of 5,000 UAH): The team from Lviv Polytechnic National University, consisting of students: Vitaliy Bihun, Nataliia Honchar, and Iryna Chomko. Team Faculty Advisor: Leonid Vozniuk.
  • 2nd Place (Prize of 3,000 UAH): Yuliia Kramar – student at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUBA).
  • 3rd Place (Prize of 2,000 UAH): Uliana Sabantseva – student at the SRI PCEEE of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology.
  • 3rd Place (Prize of 2,000 UAH): Mykyta Martimianov – student at the SRI PCEEE of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology.

Awards and Motivation

In addition to gaining a unique practical case study for their professional portfolios and experience working with complex, large-scale technological objects, all competition winners are guaranteed to receive their cash prizes.

The organizers ensured that every participant felt the support of the nuclear community: all finalists will receive commemorative souvenirs from the Ukrainian Nuclear Society. Furthermore, the main shared reward awaits all participants – an exclusive trip to one of Ukraine’s operational nuclear power plants, where young architects and engineers will be able to see the operations of the country’s most powerful, high-tech facilities with their own eyes.

Congratulations to the winners, and we wish them new achievements in designing the future of Ukraine!
