National Selection for Innovation for Nuclear (I4N) Europe 2026 in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Nuclear Society is proud to announce the launch of the national selection for the international innovation competition, Innovation for Nuclear (I4N) Europe 2026, organized by the European Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network (ENS-YGN).

This is a premier opportunity for young innovators across the country to propose solutions that will shape the future of nuclear technology, digitalization, and sustainable development.

  • Core Focus: Digital innovations in the nuclear sector.

What is I4N?

I4N is an international competition that brings together students, young researchers, engineers, IT professionals, startup teams, and scientists to develop innovative ideas at the intersection of nuclear science, digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and data analytics.

The winner of the Ukrainian selection will automatically represent Ukraine at the European Final in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, in June 2026.

Who can apply?

We welcome participants working or studying in the following fields:

  • Nuclear technology and power engineering
  • IT, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science
  • Modelling and Digital Twins
  • Chemistry, biology, and materials science
  • Medicine and medical technologies
  • Ecology, agricultural sciences, and water resources
  • Industrial automation and robotics
  • Public administration and communications

Note: Prior experience in the nuclear sector is not mandatory. Most importantly, your idea must align with the competition theme and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Project Requirements

Participants should propose solutions integrating:

  • AI / Machine Learning / Data Analytics
  • Digital platforms and intelligent algorithms
  • Modelling, Digital Twins, VR/AR
  • Automation, data processing, and new digital tools

Projects can address clean energy and decarbonization, nuclear medicine and diagnostics, food security, water resources, environment and climate, industrial processes, new materials, safety and efficiency of nuclear facilities, digital transformation, and innovative services.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: Up to 37 years old.
  • Format: Individual participants or teams of two.
  • Background: Students, engineers, IT specialists, scientists, PhD students, and young professionals from various industries.
  • Language: Fluency in English is mandatory.

Submission Requirements

During registration, teams must provide:

  1. Project Presentation: 5–10 slides.
  2. Video Pitch: A short introduction of the participant/team and project description (up to 3 minutes, free format).

Competition Stages

  1. Preliminary project evaluation.
  2. Online presentations to the jury.
  3. The winner proceeds to the I4N Europe Final 2026 in the UK.

Evaluation Criteria (Approved by ENS-YGN)

  • Innovation: Originality and uniqueness.
  • Market Applicability: Commercial or industrial potential.
  • Contribution: Impact on SDGs and nuclear/digital technologies.
  • Feasibility: Realism of implementation.
  • Presentation Quality: Clarity and persuasiveness.
