Award Ceremony for Winners and Finalists of the All-Ukrainian Essay Competition

On January 22, an award ceremony for the winners and finalists of the All-Ukrainian essay competition among school students titled “Nuclear Energy and the World” took place in Kyiv.

The competition, aimed at deepening knowledge of nuclear physics and the use of nuclear energy, career guidance, and supporting talented youth in expanding their understanding of the nuclear sector in Ukraine and worldwide, was held throughout the autumn of 2025. It attracted more than 70 applications from senior school students across Ukraine. The final stage of the competition took place at the end of the year and brought together 26 participants from Varash, Netishyn, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Uzhhorod, Chop, and Slavutych.

For many years, the event has been supported by its permanent partners and co-organizers: JSC “NNEGC Energoatom”, the Energy Safety Group of Companies, as well as higher education institutions, including the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (Educational and Scientific Institute of Nuclear and Thermal Power Engineering, Department of Nuclear Energy), Lviv Polytechnic National University (Department of Thermal Power Engineering, Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants), Odesa Polytechnic National University (Department of Nuclear Power Plants), and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Karazin Institute of Physics and Technology).

At the invitation of Energoatom, prize winners and finalists from Kyiv and the Kyiv region visited the company’s office, where they were ceremoniously awarded participation diplomas, valuable prizes, and commemorative gifts.

The winner of this year’s competition was ninth-grade student Andrii Bobrov, a pupil of Kyivska Rus Gymnasium, with his essay titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins to Enhance the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants.” Andrii’s work was supervised by Vitalii Dushynskyi, Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences. Under his mentorship, both Andrii Bobrov and his brother Kyrylo—another finalist of this year’s competition—have been studying.

Other finalists also attended the event, including students of Kyiv Lyceum No. 113 Anna Opryshko and Kateryna Volynets, as well as Stanislav Pavlenko from Kyiv Lyceum No. 309, accompanied by their supervisors and parents. The organizers also congratulated participants and teachers of the qualifying stage of the competition—students of the Irpin Professional College of Economics and Law, graduates of Kurakhove Secondary School No. 1 (Donetsk region), which is currently located in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. These students actively participate in numerous youth projects organized by Energoatom and the Ukrainian Nuclear Society and demonstrate a strong interest in nuclear topics.

Following the award ceremony, Energoatom representatives conducted an introductory virtual tour of Ukrainian nuclear power plants for students and guests using VR headsets and power unit models. An informative discussion was also held on the principles of dosimeter operation and other topics related to the activities of the nuclear industry that were of interest to the audience.

Award ceremonies are also being held in other regions where the qualifying stages of the competition took place and whose participants became finalists and prize winners, including Lviv, Varash, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Yuzhnoukrainsk. In addition, awards have been sent by mail to participants who were unable to attend these events in person.

The Ukrainian Nuclear Society sincerely congratulates the winners and finalists of the competition and thanks all participants, educators, and jury members for their active contribution to fostering young people’s scientific interest in nuclear energy. We are confident that the “Nuclear Energy and the World” competition will continue to serve as an important platform for shaping the future generation of nuclear industry professionals in Ukraine.
