Meeting of the Scientific and Analytical Section of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society

On 28 November 2025, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society held a regular meeting of its Scientific and Analytical Section. The session, chaired by Oleksandr Mazurok, PhD, Co-Head of the Section and Head of the UkrNS branch based at Energy Safety Group, was conducted in a hybrid format: part of the experts gathered at the Energy Safety Group Kyiv office at the invitation of the Section leadership, while others joined online.

The meeting was attended by Volodymyr Kholosha, President of UkrNS, current members of the Section, as well as new participants. In total, 25 specialists representing enterprises and organizations of the nuclear and related sectors took part, including experts from Energoatom, Energy Safety Group, IPP-CENTRE LLC, and research institutions such as the The Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants, the The National Science Center Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology (KIPT), the Institute for Nuclear Research of the NAS of Ukraine, among others.

During the meeting, participants discussed the composition and tasks of the working groups, whose purpose is to prepare analytical materials and develop proposals aimed at advancing Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector, supporting fundamental and applied nuclear research, and identifying solutions in the areas of safety, innovation, and their practical implementation. The initiative to create such groups was launched at the previous Section meeting in August 2025, where priority activity areas for 2025–2027 were approved – these will guide the structure and focus of the working groups.

An open invitation was extended to UkrNS members and interested experts of the sector to join the Section’s work and, in particular, its working groups. It was decided to continue forming the groups, refining their activity areas, and defining their specific tasks.

Participants also reviewed the outcomes of the NucNext 2025 Conference, held in autumn 2025, and discussed preparations for the next conference, as well as engagement in other nuclear-sector events. Special attention was given to the participation of UkrNS members and other Ukrainian experts in the 1st International Conference on LWR Fuel Performance, Modelling and Experimental Support, held in Nesebar, Bulgaria. This conference provided a platform for sharing knowledge on fuel characteristics and modelling, bringing together academic research, industry, and operational experience. Ukrainian participation was partially supported by the Nurecab project.

We invite all interested specialists to join the activities of the Scientific and Analytical Section of UkrNS, as well as individual projects implemented under its auspices within the scientific direction of the Society. For any questions, please contact the UkrNS Secretariat.
