Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ukrainian Nuclear Society and Black Sea Women in Nuclear Network signed

In a significant step towards the advancement of nuclear energy and technologies, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society and the Black Sea Women in Nuclear Network (BSWN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in early December 2024. This milestone agreement aims to promote nuclear safety, security, and radiation protection issues, develop the potential of women and men through specialized education and training, and foster a safety and security culture in the industry, with due consideration to social, gender, and other aspects of development.

The BSWN, a diverse community that brings together nuclear experts from Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, and other countries, is committed to supporting and empowering women in the nuclear industry. It aims to create a barrier-free environment that offers equal opportunities for women and men from the Black Sea region to excel in the nuclear industry and ascend to leadership positions.

According to the Memorandum, the Parties are committed to taking joint actions to promote gender equality and women’s participation in the nuclear industry. This includes active involvement of women in the field of nuclear energy, radiation safety, nuclear security, and technologies, and the development of programs and initiatives to foster women’s professional growth in these areas. The Parties also pledge to create opportunities for professional exchange, mentoring, and development, and to organize events that raise public awareness of the role of women in nuclear energy.

The parties will also cooperate in attracting and raising young people’s interest in nuclear energy and industry, training young professionals, sharing experience and promoting career opportunities in the industry, supporting innovative approaches and projects developed by young professionals in the fields of nuclear energy and nuclear and radiation safety, establishing international cooperation in this area, etc.
