The winners of the competition of scientific projects in the field of nuclear science, nuclear energy and industry “Nuclear Innovators” are determined

On June 13, 2023, the winners of the nuclear innovators competition of scientific projects in the field of nuclear science, nuclear energy and industry Nuclear Innovators are determined.

The competition was held from February to June 2023 and was launched by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society with the participation of the Council of Young Scientists at the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Council of Young Scientists at the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and with the support of leading companies operating in the nuclear industry – SE NNEGC Energoatom, Cameco Corporation, Energy Safety Group, Phoenix Contact.

It was attended by 13 specialists representing leading enterprises, scientific organizations and institutions of higher education in the nuclear and related industries. The projects of the participants were evaluated in two stages – during the preliminary review of the summary of projects and the final presentation of the projects by the participants.

The final part of the competition took place on June 9, 2023 online, during which the participants of the competition presented their scientific research and applied developments to the jury.

The competition jury included leading specialists from partner companies, scientific organizations and institutions of higher education in the nuclear and related industries: Yuri Sheyko, Acting First Vice President and Technical Director of SE NNEGC Energoatom; Olexandr Depenchuk, Director for Nuclear and Radiation Safety SE NNEGC Energoatom; Volodymyr Kravchenko, Head of the Department of Nuclear Power Plants of the National University “Odessa Polytechnic”; Anatoliy Nosovskiy, Director of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants NAS of Ukraine; Evaldas Zemolochinas, Cameco Corporation; Ph.D. Olexandr Mazurok, Technical Director, Energy Safety Group (ES Group); Andriy Maksymets, CEO of Phoenix Contact.

The researcher of the Department of Radiation Physics of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine [INR NASU], the Chairman of the UkrNS on the basis of the INR NASU, Ph.D. Yevhen Malyi and Head of the Sector Ithe Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences Kostantyn Semeyko; Junior Researcher at the Department of Radiation-Resistant Ceramics and Advanced Technologies of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Materials Science and Technology, “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology”, Chairman of the Separate subdivision in Kharkiv, Ph.D. Kostyantyn Lobach.

The winners of the Nuclear Innovators 2023 competition are:

Nomination “Applied Development”
Pavlo Kuznetsov, Chief NPP Specialist of Rivne NPP SE NNEGC Energoatom / postgraduate student of The National University of Water and Environmental Engineering with the project “Optimization of phosphonate correction processing of cooling water of the technical water supply circulating system of Rivne NPP according to the criterion of variability”.

Nomination “Scientific research”
Eduard Klyuev, Senior Researcher,  M.S. Polyakov Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ph.D., with the project “Innovative approaches to solving the issue of containerization of low- and medium-level radioactive hazardous waste”.

The participants’ developments and scientific research received many positive comments from the competition jury, recommendations for improving projects for their further implementation in accordance with the today needs of the nuclear industry, as well as wishes not to stop there in creating innovative solutions, developments, approaches that contribute to the development of nuclear science, energy and industry of Ukraine.

The authors of the winning projects will receive monetary rewards from the organizers and partners of the contest, as well as full support in their practical implementation and scaling.
