April 27 in the NTUU "Igor Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic Institute" was held the final of the Allukrainian competition of abstracts "Nuclear Energy and Peace", organized by NAEK Energoatom and the Ukrainian Nuclear Society.
To evaluate the entries was drawn judges of the highest caliber: the director of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Materials Science and Technologies of NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Victor Voevodin, Director of the Institute of Nuclear Power Plants Safety problems of NASU, member -korrespondent National Academy of Sciences, doctor of technical Sciences, professor Anatoly Nosovskiĭ, Deputy dean Faculty of heat and power NTU "KPI" candidate of technical Sciences Vadim Kondratyuk, NAEC "Energoatom" President advisor , a member of the Wholesale Electricity Market of Ukraine Konstantin Zapajshchiki Council, Executive Secretary of the "Ukrainian Nuclear Society", PhD in Political Science Daniel Lavrenov.
Welcoming participants in the final of the contest, Viktor Voevodin noted that the competition demonstrates the high interest of young people in nuclear energy issues: "I am very pleased that in recent years the competition has attracted more and more participants. Both the quality of work and the level of training have increased. This is a very good signal, because talented youth is the engine of the development of science and industry, which the domestic nuclear industry so needs."
The finalists of the contest were 19 participants - schoolchildren of satellite cities of Ukraine's NPPs, Ivankov district of the Kiev region, as well as Kharkov and the Kharkov region. All participants brilliantly presented their work in the finals, showed high awareness in matters of nuclear energy, creativity and unconventionality in choosing the subjects of work. The presentations of the participants aroused lively discussions and discussions among the jury members on the distribution of prizes and incentive prizes, because among the best had to choose the best.
After lengthy discussions, the victory and the Grand Prix in the competition was awarded to Dmitry Obraztsov from Kharkov. He submitted a paper for consideration by the jury«Nuclear power plants in Ukraine: issues of possible alternatives and risks of nuclear power». In general, the distribution of prizes is as follows: 1st place - Marina Gaponova (Varash, Rivne region) with work«The Problem of Utilization of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Ukraine: An Analysis of International Standards and the Prospects for the Construction of the ISFSF in Ukraine», II place - Valery Garkushenko (Yuzhnoukrainsk, Mykolayiv region) «Reconstruction of the technical water supply system at the South-Ukrainian NPP», III place - Alina Safiullina (city of Energodar, Zaporozhye region).«Study of the relationship between the climatic regime within the zone of location and operation of the ZNPP». Encouraging prizes for active participation in the competition and a thorough approach to the development of the topics received Igor Michurin from the Kharkov, Ivan Serov from Varash, Tatyana Yurchenko from Vysoky Kharkiv district.
At the awarding ceremony, Executive Secretary of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society Danila Lavrenov, addressing the finalists, expressed hope for further successful training and a remarkable career for all participants in nuclear energy: "Despite the distribution of prize places, all participants in the competition are winners! All the works are very interesting and qualitatively prepared. I hope that you will also participate in the next competition and other educational and scientific events held by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, Energoatom and our partners. I sincerely believe that your creative and scientific activity will become a good basis for your future professional work, especially if you associate future professional life with the nuclear industry».
Winners of the contest received valuable prizes from organizers, and all participants - memorable gifts. Also, within the framework of the final events of the competition, an excursion to the Kiev Water Museum and the Aviation Museum under the open sky was organized for all participants.
Reference. Competition of abstracts "Nuclear Energy and Peace" is held with the goal of attracting schoolchildren to deepen and popularize knowledge about nuclear power and nuclear physics, support gifted youth, striving to broaden their horizons in the nuclear industry. The competition is attended by high school students, youth lyceums and gymnasiums, who are interested in various aspects of natural disciplines, as well as show a tendency to research and seek to reveal their creative abilities.
